We never charge per email

Your email goes out through your own provider, and they bill you for it directly. Amazon SES lists outbound email at about $0.10 per 1,000 emails, so 40,000 emails a month is roughly $4 on your AWS bill. Other SMTP providers set their own prices.

Each plan has a generous monthly send allowance (fair use) that protects the shared application server. It is not billed per email: if a broadcast would go past what is left this month, Silo tells you before sending so you can pick a smaller segment or move up a plan.

What would you pay?

Silo's plan plus your estimated Amazon SES cost, next to approximate list prices for other tools. All figures in USD per month.

20,000 emails a month.

MailerLite Comfort—estimate

Competitor figures are approximate monthly list prices we observed in September 2026 (Mailchimp Standard: $60 at 2,500 contacts, $135 at 10,000, $450 at 50,000. MailerLite Comfort: $33 at 2,500, $89 at 10,000, $289 at 50,000. Kit Creator: $59 at 3,000, $139 at 10,000). Values between those points are straight-line estimates; below the lowest point we show the lowest price, and above the highest we extend the last trend, marked "extrapolated". Vendors change prices and plans often; check their pricing pages before deciding. SES cost uses the $0.10 per 1,000 outbound email list price and leaves out attachments, data transfer and any AWS free tier. Trademarks belong to their owners; Silo is not affiliated with them.

Questions

Pricing FAQ

What counts as a contact?

A contact is a unique email address that is subscribed to at least one of your lists. The same address on three lists counts once. Unsubscribed, bounced and suppressed addresses don't count, and neither do store customers who haven't consented to marketing (Silo keeps them as non-mailable records).

What happens if I go over my plan's limit?

Nothing is deleted and nothing is sent without you. Imports, contacts added through the API, and broadcasts pause until you upgrade or bring your contact count back under the limit. Your signup pages and forms keep accepting new subscribers, so you never lose people who want to hear from you.

What if I downgrade or cancel?

Your account moves to the Free plan's limits: 3,000 contacts and 30,000 sends a month. Your lists, templates and history stay, and sending continues within those limits. If you have more than 3,000 contacts, imports and broadcasts pause until you are back under the limit or upgrade again. A failed payment gets a 7-day grace period after the billing period ends before the account moves to Free.

Do I need an AWS account?

Only if you want to use Amazon SES, which is the cheapest option for most senders. Creating an AWS account and requesting SES production access (leaving the SES sandbox) is done by you, with AWS. Our SES setup guide walks through it. If you'd rather not, any SMTP provider works instead.

Which SMTP providers are supported?

Any provider that gives you an SMTP host, port, username and password, with STARTTLS. That includes dedicated email services and the SMTP interface of Amazon SES. Check that your provider's terms allow marketing email. One difference: SMTP has no standard way to report bounces back, so with SMTP you forward bounce and complaint reports to a webhook URL Silo gives you. Read the SMTP guide.

Do I need a credit card to start?

No. Every account starts on Free (up to 3,000 contacts) without a card. You add a payment method only when you choose a paid plan.

Are any features locked to higher plans?

No. Every plan has every feature, including automations, the API, webhooks, store sync, team roles and deliverability tools. Plans differ only by contact count and fair-use sending.
